The Bafa Lake and its neighborhood is one of the distinctive geographic areas in Turkey in terms of archeological and historical values. The region is interested in by tourists and researchers due to its history and nature. As the lake provides habitat for numbers of bird species, it is considered as one of the international prominent bird areas. Since it is both wetland and natural conservation area, the Bafa Lake has magnificent natural beauties including Beş Parmak Mountains and antique cities.
Owing to its diverse biological structure, it is very convenient habitat for scientific researches and accordingly the Bafa Lake was given a status of Menderes Delta National Park as natural conservation park in 1994. The Bafa Lake and the area within 250 m of its shore including antique cities remaining in the natural park border (Herakleia and Latmos Cities) and all of archeological monuments were taken into 1st degree archeological site status.
In addition to historical heritage, natural beauties of the region make this neighborhood an attractive hotspot.
